FAQ
Your questions answered
Find out everything you need to know about, as a practioner or client.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to create micro-channels in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural wound-healing response, stimulating new collagen and elastin production. The result is visibly improved skin texture, tone, firmness and radiance.
What does “FDA cleared” mean?
FDA clearance means that the device has been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and deemed substantially equivalent to an existing legally marketed device. For our PRO Pen, this means it has met rigorous safety and efficacy standards for the treatment of acne scarring.
Will clients find the treatment painful?
Most clients describe microneedling as mild and manageable. Importantly, dermalogica protocols are designed with comfort at every stage. PRO Restore calms and hydrates skin during and immediately after treatment. ExoBooster then supports accelerated visible renewal and recovery. Together, these professional-grade actives help reduce post-procedure sensitivity while promoting better treatment outcomes.
Is there any downtime after the treatment?
Downtime is minimal. Clients may experience mild redness and sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours. This is a normal part of the skin’s natural healing response. PRO Restore and ExoBooster are applied during and after treatment to help calm, hydrate and support faster visible recovery. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Most clients are ready to return to their normal routine from 72 hours onwards. Broad-spectrum SPF protection is essential throughout recovery.
How often can a client have microneedling?
Most clients benefit from sessions every 4 to 6 weeks. This allows the skin’s collagen remodelling cycle to complete between treatments. A course of 3 to 6 sessions typically delivers the strongest visible results. Frequency is then tailored to individual skin concerns and goals.
How can I find a Dermalogica microneedling therapist?
Clients can search for qualified practitioners through our online therapist locator. Every listed therapist has completed dermalogica’s professional microneedling training programme. As a result, they are qualified to deliver safe, compliant treatments using our clinically proven protocols.
What improvements can my clients expect?
Clients typically see visible improvements in fine lines, skin texture, pore appearance, uneven tone and overall radiance. Collagen production builds progressively, so results strengthen over time. Many clients notice a visible difference within days of their first session, with continued improvement across a full course of treatments.
Can it improve the appearance of acne scarring?
Yes. Acne scarring is one of the most common reasons clients seek microneedling. Our FDA-cleared PRO Pen with 14-pin cartridge is specifically designed for this concern. It helps stimulate collagen production and promote controlled dermal remodelling. We also offer a dedicated advanced training course in microneedling for acne scarring to build your confidence and clinical skills.
Can microneedling help repair hair loss?
Yes. Microneedling is increasingly recognised as a professional treatment for hair restoration, helping stimulate the scalp and support a healthier environment for hair growth. dermalogica is launching a new dedicated training course for microneedling hair restoration soon.
