the power of education

Hear from some of our Dermalogica professional skin therapists, explaining the impact education has had on their business.

Sending my team on training has always been so important to me. There is nothing better than learning at dermalogica training centres getting hands on and networking with other therapists. When I come away from training, I know I feel inspired and proud to work in such a wonderful industry and I know my therapists also get this too. Being in the treatment room day in day out can get disheartening and having days out to learn new treatments is just what they need to feel inspired again.

It is a cost to the business but it is a short term loss for a long term gain. I also feel that my team feel valued as I invest in them and it pays off as my business grows from year to year.

I have been a Dermalogica stockist for 23 years now; I have a small salon just outside Birmingham and work by myself. Last year I decided to revise my education to enable me to grow my business and retail more. I worked my way up and achieved Expert status, training in Pro Power Peel, Pro Microneedling and Pro Nanoinfusion and introduced these services into my business.

I focused on hosting 'skin' events to introduce these new services to my clients. The level of education provided on how these services and products work on each clients' skin has definitely helped me to sell the new skin services, as well as retail the correct homecare to clients. This then helped me reach Derm circle all by myself!

I also completed the clear Customer Experience training, which I would recommend to every Dermalogica skin therapist, as it gives you the skills and confidence to sell through your products to your clients! Knowing the ingredients in your products and understanding how they work on the skin is key to enable you to sell confidently and amplify your professionalism within our industry. Clients are skin savvy and we need to stay one step ahead. Once you start to see your sales grow, your confidence will grow too!

- Esther, owner of Beauty at Esther

I emigrated to the UK in November 1973 . I didn't speak any English. I only had one year at junior school and found English very hard. The school resources to learn a new language were not available then, as they are now. I passed CSE's and 1, O' level, now GCSE. It wasn't until in my mid twenties when I really enjoyed learning and did further education in nursing as a health care assistant level 3 and Level 2, 3, 4 in Beauty & Holistic therapies.

I love learning what's New and keeping up with my own CPD in how to develop my business, to offer new treatments. I first came across Dermalogica products from my training courses in beauty. The Dermalogica founder Jane Wurwand, Dermalogica name, brand, training and staff are all fantastic. I learnt from Jane about the experience that was lacking in the skin care industry. It is great to meet up and socialise with other skin expert therapists when in training away from work. To meet Jane in person in 2015 was inspirational.
